We had a Boxer named Buster for 11 years who recently died of cancer and left a void in our family. After about 2 years of saying “we’ll never get another dog” we started looking and decided to adopt rather than go with a pure bred dog partly because of the money but also because there are so many good dogs who need homes out there. We saw the ad for the boxer/pit mix puppies and after I convinced my wife that Pit bulls aren’t born bad, they are made that way by bad people, we pursued it. We fell in love with Petey (Caleb) and actually with his little brother Shorty as well but could only afford 1 unfortunately. When the adoption process was finished I picked him up on May 4, he was 15 lbs and adorable, we named him Petey for obvious reasons to anyone who has ever seen the Little Rascals movie (also a Pitbull). Petey is the perfect blend of family dog and security, he is loving and fun to play with but very protective of the house and my wife and kids. I am a musician and I came home one night at 2:00am and walked into my bedroom to him growling and standing next to the bed, then he saw it was me and wagged his tail and licked me. That’s when I knew we had another perfect dog, and Buster would be proud. Here are some pics of him at 5 months, and a whopping 41lbs! Thanks to Kitty Connection for helping make our family whole again.
