Hippo

My name is Hippo.  I was found wandering the streets and was taken to a holding facility.  No one claimed me and I needed a place to go.  The Animal Control Officer said I was a supper friendly guy and they based my age on my size at being about 5 years old.

It is believed that I was used for mating.  I am an American Bully also know as Pocket Bully.  My ears were clipped but I was not neutered so there was a purpose in doing that.  Most stud dogs are just abandoned or given away when they are no longer of use.  Although males can produce offspring well into 12 years of age, they are not as fertile as a younger male dog. When I was spotted and called to, I happily ran to the people calling me and wiggled and wagged my tail so happy to be with people.

Fortunately for me, I am in a foster home now with Kitty Connection and looking for my forever home.  Since going to my foster home, I have been nothing but loving and affectionate.  I love being with people and getting lots of pets and love.  I am good with other dogs and when introduced properly, love to play and be with them.  I do not react to a dog if it is barking at me or growling at me.  If they don’t want to play and let me know it, I move along to explore something else.  I do not have any prey drives.  When I was tested being in an area where the scent of cats could be smelled, I was more interested in my people than looking for the cat. I greet strangers happily too. It’s not know how I am with children.  My temperament is loving but my strength would make me better for bigger children.  I am 60 lbs. of muscle and strength.  I definitely need someone with dog experience and knowledge of handling muscle dogs. It is not easy for the average person to walk me.

I am crate trained and seek my crate for comfort and to sleep if I’m not with a person but prefer sleeping at the feet of my foster mom hoping she will give me some belly rubs! I know some basic commands to sit, come, up to go up stairs and down to go down stairs.  I am house trained.  I barked to my foster mom from my crate in the am, that I wanted to go out.  I will let you know when I need to go out if you are not nearby, otherwise I will go by the door to let you know.  I love going outside and playing and going for a walk and will come home and take a nice nap.  I’m not a barker, I bark to communicate a need.  My foster mom takes me to work with her and I love it because I’m with her.  I am a really lovable and well behaved guy who will bring a lot of love, smiles and companionship to your life.
