Tommy

In rescue, we regularly deal with heartbreaking situations.  Some stand out more than others. 15-year-old Tommy is one of those.  Tommy and his brother belonged to an elderly person who’d lost the ability to care for them properly.  A relative took them to animal control with instructions to put them down.  Someone associated with animal control told one of our rescuers about them, and he placed them into a foster home.  They were both undernourished and underweight.  Tommy weighed a little under six pounds– about as much as a six-month-old kitten.  Both were in bad shape, but Tommy’s condition improved and he gradually gained weight.  Sadly, Tommy’s brother passed away in his sleep, His foster found Tommy by his side, crying and unwilling to leave the body.

The intent had been to get the two boys adopted together, but that’s impossible now, and Tommy still needs a home with a kind-hearted person who will patiently help him with his grief, preferably with another cat, as Tommy knows no life without at least one other cat, and he gets along with the other cats in his foster home.  While saddened by his brother’s death, this little guy remains affectionate toward his foster mom and will make a loving companion to whomever adopts him.  If you want a warm, friendly presence who will return your love a thousand times over, this is the boy for you.  Simply put, Tommy is a world-class cat.

We have not observed him with dogs or kids.  We think he’d do well with kids who know how to treat cats respectfully.  As friendly as he is, he should go to a home where he will not be left unaccompanied for long periods of time.

Tommy has been neutered, is current on shots, tested negative for FeLV and FIV, and has been treated for worms and fleas.  Our vet has determined that he is a healthy boy other than some noninfectious sinusitis that does not interfere with his quality of life.  In this regard, he’s sort of a cat version of that stuffy-nosed kid we all knew in elementary school.

His adopter will receive his medical records. There is a simple adoption process and a small adoption fee so we can continue to help cats in need. The world does not beat a path to older cats like Tommy, so that fee has been reduced to a mere $25– a bargain for a new best friend who will love you for the rest of his life.  He’s being fostered in Lynnfield.

Cats can live more than 20 years, and don’t be surprised if Tommy passes that milestone, so give careful thought to the changes that are likely to occur in your life during that time. If you can and will commit to him and provide a safe, loving home for life, then respond to RoyCBarrows@gmail.com. Please include your phone number for a faster response and say a little about yourself and the home you would provide for him as we try to match people with the right cats.
